Congratulations to Muse, whose ‘Knights of Cydonia’ was this years winner of the Triple J Hottest 100 #1 Song. For some reason I thought it was featured in last years countdown, which is why it seemed to come out of nowhere to snatch the #1 from Silverchair’s ‘Straight Lines’. It’s a great song, and a deserving winner – check out the very cool Spaghetti-Western influenced video clip.
This year’s countdown was again entertaining and mostly pretty funny, though there was the usual pretty poor attempts at humour – Triple J always seems to be a little too forgiving when it comes to their on air ‘comedians’. Having a guy like Ross Noble join them shows the cracks all too well – he’s just so adept and natural and never seems like he’s trying too hard – something some of the others could learn from.
I did love their running joke of the songs that didn’t make it, although I was a bit disappointed ‘Chocolate Rain’ didn’t show up in this segment.
The only genuine disappointment for me was that Josh Pyke’s ‘Vibrations In Air’ didn’t make the 100. It is in my opinion the best song on his brilliant ‘Memories and Dust’ album, yet three other Pykey songs made the list over it. That, and the fact that there were no Hinder songs either. For shame.
Gutted over Choco Rain. I luv Choco Rain 4eva
